ABOUT: A TRADITION OF KNOWLEDGE

Blue Ridge Fiberworks is an artisan cooperative founded in a tradition of knowledge.  Both hand and commercial textile production have a long and unique history in the mountains of Virginia and North Carolina.  We three fiberistas who started this enterprise draw on the deep roots of knowledge in our area to produce yarns and textiles for the 21st century.

The three of us, Deb, Vivian, and Nancy, are all retired from other careers but now pursue a passion for fiber.  We raise fiber animals ourselves.  We work with local sheep farmers to show them the value in their wool.  We mill locally harvested fiber into fine yarns, and when time permits, we make finished goods from our yarns.

We currently sell custom yarns to regional yarn shops and to textile artisans.   Our exclusive blends are produced at the closest mills available, but we hope to ride the resurgence of interest in local goods to bring a fiber mill back to our area. We want to take advantage of local knowledge of textile manufacturing to once again produce yarns and textiles in our corner of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Our commitment to regional textiles includes promoting the work of local artisans, including weavers, felters, basketmakers, knitters, and woodworkers making textile tools.  Please check out our individual portfolios and those of our friends.

While we primarily sell yarns wholesale, we do sometimes have our signature products, such as yarns and knitting kits, available for purchase.  So, click here to see current offerings.  If you are a retailer or producer interested in having us create an exclusive yarn for you please contact us.
